The Great Outdoors or TGO

Well it has been a busy winter so far.  We have settled into living in the Airstream and life here at TGO. We are walking, biking, birding, playing pickleball and Diana is doing Tia Chi and sewing. There is something for everyone here. There is even movie night on Thursdays.

We did some visiting in December. In 9 days we slept in 5 different beds. Yikes! We spent Christmas with Abe in Englewood. He has settled into his new job as manager of the Venice Target store. It was fun kayaking and biking around the Key where he lives.  It was great exploring the Gulf coast and inland waterways along with wonderful state parks to hike.
We left Abe and stopped in Madera Beach, which is near St. Petersburg to visit with ours friends Cathy and Bill. They were staying with Cathy’s sister. She invited us to stay too. We spent the day exploring Fort Desoto Park. There was a great campground for a future trip. David and I slept out on the patio on the couches under the stars. It was beautiful.
We left there the next day to get back to our Airstream for a night so we could do laundry and repack for the next trip. We left the next day for Amelia Island. It is on the FL/GA boarder. We were meeting friends there that were flying down for business and pleasure. Once we met at the hotel we rented bikes and it was off to Fort Clinch St. Park. After biking for 10 miles that day we enjoyed drinks and appetizers at a restaurant right on the intercoastal waterway. It brought back lots of great memories. It made us both think of our boating days. With the pending day light ending we headed back to the hotel. The next day we biked in the morning before having to turn the bikes back in, then it was on to the beach for some beach combing. The next day we did some birding on a nature trail that started right at the hotel.
Next it was off to Savanna GA to spend our 30th anniversary and ring in the New Year with Mike and Carol, David’s brother and wife. We had a progressive dinner with Mike and Carol’s friends on New Years Eve. It was fun sampling the wonderful food the different hosts prepared.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
We got back to Titusville to do laundry and repack before we flew to CA on the 8th to see Zach and his new condo. He wasn’t kidding when he said that he wanted me to clean. The morning we arrived they packed up the construction tools, took the plastic off of the furniture and did a quick clean. It looked good but the dust was everywhere. Even in the oven! When David and Zach left to return equipment and pick up some of his stuff from where he had been living I rolled up my sleeves and really attacked the dust. We all worked hard for 3 days and the apartment was ready for the party we planned on Sunday. Family and friends arrived for the cook out and then the kitchen sink backed up. AAHH! Zach had to run upstairs to have them turn off the water. The plumber was called and a couple of hours later all was well. The next day we got to go for a hike and Zach planned a spa treatment. We all got a massage.
We flew back on the 13th and David started a Veterinary Conference for continuing education over in Orlando on the 17th. After commuting for 4 days we both started the Space coast Birding festival with a field trip that originated at 4:30 AM. We had 5 great days of wonderful birding trips. Diana did take one day off to go to a Quilting show. We both got to see and hear many new birds.
In between all of the traveling we had to start to look for somewhere else to go for next season. The owner of the site we are renting sold the site so we can’t be here next year. To make a long story shorter we decided to look into buying. Well it all happened fast and we now own our own piece of the TGO. We have a 700sqf one-bedroom home with a port covering the area that the Airstream will be hooked up to. So we now have room for visitors!

We can’t believe that in just a little over 3 weeks we will depart the TGO for an Airstream rally in Sarasota Florida. Our real adventure with the Airstream will begin. We will have to tow and park it. I have my fingers crossed. (that is Diana) David is all set to go!!
